Permanent LED Light Bars Year-Round Color-Changing Accent Lighting

Permanent LED light bars give a building a continuous, even line of light instead of a row of individual bulbs. Each one-meter bar produces smooth color across its full length, connects to the next with a slim concealed joint, and stays mounted year-round  so the same system that washes your home in warm white on an ordinary Tuesday can turn red and green in December, orange for Halloween, or your school’s colors on game night. Lights Around installs light bars as part of our permanent lighting range  alongside point-source roofline systems RGB cubes and RGB globes across Central and Northern Virginia.

What Makes a Light Bar Different From Roofline Bulbs

Most permanent lighting systems use point sources — individual LED nodes spaced a few inches apart along a track, which is what our permanent roofline lighting system uses. Light bars work differently. Instead of dots of color, each bar throws a continuous wash, so from the street you read a clean line of light rather than a string of beads. That makes bars the better choice for architectural features you want to graze or wash: soffits, columns, retaining walls, signage bands, entry surrounds, and the flat faces of commercial buildings. It also makes them the better choice when the fixture will sit close to a surface, where individual bulbs would create visible hot spots.

The two approaches are not mutually exclusive, and most of the designs we install use both  bars to wash the architecture, point lights to trace the roofline. If you’re not sure which reads better on your building, our design team will mock both up against a photo of your property before anything is ordered. Start with a free design consultation .

Where Light Bars Work Best

On homes. Under the soffit or along the fascia for a full-width wash; up columns and porch posts; along a retaining wall, garage band, or stone façade; around a front-entry surround; along a deck or pool edge. Homeowners who want the lighting to disappear in daylight usually get the cleanest result mounting bars under the soffit line, where the fixture is not visible from the street at all.

On businesses. Signage bands, parapet lines, entry canopies, drive-through lanes, and column wraps. A single system lets a property manager run corporate brand colors all year, switch to holiday palettes on a schedule, and change nothing about the physical installation. If you’re specifying lighting for a portfolio of sites or a larger commercial elevation, see our commercial lighting range, which covers large-format displays as well as permanent systems.

On venues, churches, and event spaces. Bars pair well with our permanent patio lighting for outdoor gathering areas, and with the year-round LED systems we install for organizations that want automatic scheduling across the whole calendar.

Control, Color, and Scheduling

Light bars are managed through the RainMin WEC controller, which drives long runs from a single point and connects to a phone app. From the app you set colors, patterns, brightness, and zones, and you build a schedule warm white from dusk to 11pm most nights, a holiday palette on the dates you choose, a single accent color for a game or an event. Once the schedule is set, the system runs itself; the app is there for the days you want something different.

Practical detail that matters more than the feature list: the bars are dimmable and the warm-white setting is genuinely warm, not the blue-white cast that makes permanent lighting look like a commercial security fixture. Most of our residential clients run warm white the large majority of the year and use color a handful of times.

What Permanent Light Bars Cost in Virginia

Light bar pricing starts at $4,000 installed for a run of up to 100 feet on a structure up to two stories, including the controller, wiring, design, and installation. Final pricing depends on total linear feet, how many separate runs and zones the design needs, the height and access of the mounting surface, and whether the system is combined with point-source roofline lighting.

For comparison, our permanent roofline lighting system starts at $3,000 installed, and we offer a managed year-round program from $900 up front plus a monthly fee for customers who would rather not pay for the system outright. Payment plans are available on both.

The honest way to think about the cost: a permanent system replaces roughly seven to ten years of seasonal Christmas light installation, with no annual scheduling, no ladders, and no takedown in January. Most of our permanent-lighting customers came to us for holiday installs first and switched after two or three seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can permanent light bars be left up all year?

Yes — that’s the point of them. The bars, connectors, and controller are rated for continuous outdoor exposure, and they stay mounted through every season. You control when they’re on and what color they are; nothing has to come down.

Barely. Mounted under a soffit they’re invisible from the street. Mounted on a fascia or wall face, the bar reads as a slim dark line and the connectors are concealed behind the housing, so there’s no visible gap or cable run between sections.

From $4,000 installed for up to 100 feet on a structure up to two stories, including design, controller, wiring, and installation. Larger elevations, multi-zone designs, and three-story access cost more. We quote from a site measurement, not a phone estimate.

The LEDs themselves are rated in the tens of thousands of hours — well over a decade at normal evening run times. The controller and power supply are the components most likely to need service first, and both are replaceable without touching the bars.

Yes. The fixtures are sealed and rated for outdoor use through Virginia winters, including snow, ice, and freeze-thaw cycles. Cold weather has no meaningful effect on LED output.

Yes, and most of our larger installs do. Both product lines run on the same controller family, so a combined system is driven from one app with shared schedules and zones. See our permanent roofline lighting page for that product.

Permanent systems are installed once and stay; seasonal systems are installed each fall and removed each January. We do both — see our Christmas light and we’ve written a longer comparison in permanent vs. temporary holiday lighting

Yes. Retail, offices, churches, wineries, HOAs, and municipal properties are a large share of our permanent work. See commercial lighting  for scope and larger displays.
