RGB Globe and Sphere Lights Hanging Color-Changing Orbs, Professionally Installed

RGB globes — also called spheres or orbs — are illuminated spheres that hang overhead, turning tree canopies, pergolas, and covered patios into a field of floating color. Where a spotlight aims at a tree, a globe hangs in it, so the light source itself becomes the feature. Lights Around installs Minleon RGB+ globes as part of a full permanent lighting system, running on the same controller and the same app as your roofline lighting, light bars, and ground-level RGB cubes.

What RGB Globes Are (and Where They Hang)

Each globe is a sealed, weather-rated sphere filled with RGB+ LEDs capable of rendering any color plus dynamic patterns  a slow fade across a canopy, a chase down a pergola run, a full sequence timed to music. They’re built for permanent outdoor installation, so they stay up through Virginia summers and winters with no seasonal takedown. Most installations hang globes at staggered heights rather than a single level: varied drop lengths through a tree canopy read as organic, while a matched height along a pergola beam reads as architectural. Both work  the choice is the design conversation.

Six Sizes, From Accent Orbs to 20-Inch Statement Spheres

Globes come in six diameters, and mixing them is what separates a designed install from a row of hanging balls. Small orbs cluster densely through a canopy for a “fireflies in the tree” effect; the 20-inch spheres work as standalone statements over an entry, a bar, or a dining area. Because every globe shares the Minleon RGB+ chipset, a mixed-size layout still behaves as one addressable system; one command changes them all together, with no fixture lagging behind. Globes and RGB cubes also mix and match on the same controller, which is why most full properties end up running both.

Control, Color, and Scheduling

Everything runs from your phone. Set color, brightness, pattern, and speed, then build a schedule of warm white over the patio from dusk to 11pm on ordinary nights, school colors on game day, red and green from Thanksgiving through New Year’s without anyone getting a ladder out. Globes can be zoned separately from the roofline, so the canopy holds one look while the house holds another. Minleon RGB+ globes are also compatible with Art-Net, E1.31/sACN, and MeshTek alongside stock Minleon NDB-Pro and WEC controllers, which matters if you’re running sequenced or music-synchronized shows rather than ambient lighting. Our year-round lighting page covers how scheduling works across the whole system.

Where RGB Globes Work Best

Globes earn their place anywhere there’s something to hang from:

  • Tree canopies — the signature application; staggered drops through mature trees.
  • Pergolas and covered patios — evenly spaced along beams, often paired with permanent patio lighting string runs.
  • Pool areas — overhead color that doesn’t glare off the water the way a ground fixture can.
  • Entry features and porticos — a single large sphere as an alternative to a conventional pendant.
  • Commercial patios, breweries, and outdoor dining — see the full commercial lighting range.
  • Indoor atriums and event spaces — globes are used indoors as often as out.

Where there’s nothing overhead to hang from, RGB cubes deliver the same color at ground level.

RGB Globes for Weddings and Events

Hanging spheres photograph better than almost any other rental lighting, which is why they show up over reception tents, dance floors, and garden ceremonies. Globes can be installed as a short-term rental for weddings, corporate events, and festivals, pre-programmed to your palette and installed and removed by our crew  an ivory-white ceremony that shifts to color for the reception is a single scheduled scene change, not a re-rig. What's Included in an RGB Globe Installation

Every installed RGB globe project includes an on-site design consultation and hang plan, the globes and all suspension hardware, low-voltage wiring and transformer work run and concealed, power injection points where a run needs them, controller integration with any existing Lights Around system, app setup with your first scenes and schedules built alongside you, and cleanup and a walkthrough at handoff. Globes run on 12V or 24V low-voltage power  24V doubles the number of fixtures a single run can carry before an injection point is needed, which is why longer canopy runs are usually specified at 24V.

What RGB Globes Cost in Virginia

RGB globe installations start at $4,000 for a ten-sphere set hung within roughly a 100-foot area, including design, suspension hardware, wiring, controller integration, and app setup. Final pricing depends on globe count and sizes, hang height and tree access, distance from power, and whether the globes are joining an existing system or being installed with one. Because the fixtures are permanent, that’s a one-time cost rather than an annual one  the same math that makes a permanent system replace seven to ten years of seasonal installs. Properties adding globes to an existing Lights Around system typically come in well under the starting figure, since the controller and transformer are already in place.

RGB Globe Installation Across Central and Northern Virginia

Lights Around installs RGB globes from our Locust Grove base across Fredericksburg, Culpeper, Spotsylvania, Orange County, Woodbridge, Quantico, Manassas, Fairfax, Loudoun County, Richmond, Charlottesville, and Lynchburg. Hang conditions vary a lot across that footprint; a mature oak canopy in Loudoun County needs different rigging and drop planning than a pergola on a Richmond patio  so every project starts with an on-site walk before we quote. Frequently Asked Questions

Can RGB globes stay outside year-round?

Yes. They’re sealed, weather-rated fixtures designed for permanent outdoor installation  no seasonal takedown and no storage.

On concealed suspension cable rigged to structural branches, with drop lengths set during the design walk. Rigging is designed to move with the tree rather than bind against it, and hardware is placed to avoid girdling as the tree grows

If your system is Minleon-based, yes. Globes join the same controller and appear as their own zone in the app, so the canopy can run independently of the roofline. They also share a controller with RGB cubes.

A pergola run typically uses eight to twelve; a mature tree canopy often takes ten to twenty at staggered heights; a single large sphere can work alone over an entry. The design consultation sets the count and spacing.

They run on 12V or 24V low-voltage power and stay cool to the touch, and suspension hardware is rated well above fixture weight. Overhead installs are engineered for the specific hang point.

Yes — rental sets are available for weddings, corporate events, and festivals, delivered pre-programmed to your colors and installed and removed by our crew.
