Beautiful Wedding Lighting, Without the Ladders
Most couples picture the lights long before they think about how they get hung. Then the questions start: what do we tie them to, how many feet do we need, where’s the outlet, and who takes them down at midnight?
That’s our job. We measure the space, bring freestanding posts when there’s nothing to hang from, run and hide the cords, and come back after the celebration to remove every light. You and your planner just enjoy how it looks.
Wedding Lighting Options and Prices
Every wedding is quoted around the venue, but most layouts are built from the same few pieces. Each price below includes installation and takedown by our crew.
Wedding Bistro String Lights
The look most couples ask for. Each wedding bistro string lights package covers up to 100 feet of warm-white G40 bulbs, with 25-foot add-on runs. We hang them across tent ceilings, between trees, over patios and along barn rafters.
Outdoor Uplighting
Outdoor uplighting for weddings washes walls, trees and building fronts in soft color, so a plain reception space becomes part of the décor after sunset. Set it to match your wedding colors.
Pillar and Column Light Wraps
Porch columns, pergola posts and ceremony arches disappear after dark. Pillar light wraps cover posts up to 8 feet tall, framing your entrance or lining the walk to the ceremony.
Light Posts
Open lawns and vineyard terraces don’t come with rafters. Our freestanding 10-foot light posts give the string lights something to hang from, anywhere on the property.
| Option | Starting price | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Wedding bistro string lights, 100 ft | from $500 | Warm-white G40 bulbs every 12–18 in. 25-ft add-on runs. |
| Outdoor uplighting | from $500 | Color on walls, trees and tent poles, set to your palette. |
| Pillar light wraps | from $90 | Posts and columns up to 8 ft; six colors. |
| Light posts | from $75 each | Freestanding, 10 ft. About one per 50 ft of lights. |
Outdoor Wedding Lighting by Venue Type
The right lighting depends on where you’re celebrating. Here’s how we usually approach the venues we see most across Virginia.
Tent Wedding Lighting
A tent reception needs light that fills a big open ceiling without glare. Bistro strings hung in parallel lines, a crisscross or a center-out canopy make the tent feel finished. Uplighting on the tent poles adds warmth around the edges. Tell us your tent size and use the sizing guide below for a first estimate; we’ll confirm the exact footage with your layout.
Barn and Rustic Venues
Exposed beams and rafters are made for string lights. We drape bistro lights for barn weddings between beams for a warm overhead glow, then add uplighting against the walls to bring out the wood. Wrapped posts at the doors turn your entrance into a photo moment.
Vineyards, Estates and Backyard Weddings
Wine country weddings in Loudoun County and Central Virginia often move outdoors for cocktail hour. Light posts let us build a string-light canopy over a lawn or patio, and uplighting keeps the property glowing after dark. For a wedding at home or a rehearsal dinner, our backyard bistro lighting package gives the same look on a smaller scale.
How Wedding Light Installation Works
Share your date and venue
Send your wedding date, venue address and a few photos of the space through our quote form. Include your tent size or floor plan if you have it.
Get a layout and quote
We recommend products and footage for your space and style, then quote the full setup so you know exactly what’s included.
We install before guests arrive
Our crew hangs every run, routes the cords safely and tests each light before your coordinator starts setting tables.
We take it all down
After the celebration we remove every light, cord and post. Nothing for you or your venue to pack up or return.
What’s Included With Your Wedding Lighting
- A lighting layout planned around your venue
- Commercial-grade LED lights and fixtures
- Installation before your guests arrive
- Cords routed and taped safely out of the way
- Takedown and removal after the celebration
- Free reschedule for weather with 24 hours’ notice
Power, Weather and Venue Requirements
Most wedding lighting runs on standard outlets. Each setup needs a working electric outlet within 50 feet of the lighting area, and that outlet shouldn’t share a circuit with high-draw equipment such as catering warmers or sound systems. If your venue’s power is farther away, tell us early so we can plan the cord runs.
- Outlet within 50 ft of the lighting area
- Weather-proof outdoor lights
- Liability insurance and workers’ comp coverage, which many venues require

How Many String Lights Do You Need for a Wedding?
For a simple outline, add the length and width of your tent or space and double it. That’s your perimeter. Canopy styles that cross the ceiling need more. Here’s a quick guide for common tent sizes:
| Tent size | Outline | Bistro packs for the outline | Add for a full canopy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 × 20 | 80 ft | 1 × 100 ft | about 60–80 ft more |
| 20 × 40 | 120 ft | 1 × 100 ft + 1 × 25 ft | about 80–100 ft more |
| 30 × 60 | 180 ft | 2 × 100 ft | about 180–210 ft more |
| 40 × 60 | 200 ft | 2 × 100 ft | about 240–280 ft more |
| 40 × 80 | 240 ft | 2 × 100 ft + 2 × 25 ft | about 320–400 ft more |
Open lawn with no tent? Plan one light post for about every 50 feet of lights. Send us your tent size or a photo and we’ll do the math for you.

Wedding Lighting FAQs
How many string lights do I need for a wedding tent?
A perimeter run is the easiest way to estimate: add the tent’s length and width, then double it. A 40×60 tent has a 200-foot perimeter, which is two 100-foot bistro packages. Canopy styles that cross the ceiling need more. Parallel runs across the width every 8 to 10 feet add roughly another 240 to 280 feet on that same tent. We’ll confirm the exact footage once we see your layout.
How much does wedding lighting cost?
Bistro string light packages and outdoor uplighting start at $500, and pillar light wraps start at $90. Your total depends on footage, the number of fixtures and your venue layout, so we quote each wedding individually.
Can the lighting match our wedding colors?
Uplighting can. Color-changing LED uplights can be set to your palette, whether that’s blush, sage or deep burgundy. Bistro string lights use warm-white bulbs for a classic, candlelit glow that works with any color scheme.
Does our venue need to provide power?
Yes. Each setup needs a working electric outlet within 50 feet of the lighting area. Ask your venue coordinator where outlets are before your walkthrough, and share that with us so we can plan the layout.
What if our venue has nothing to hang lights from?
That’s what our freestanding light posts are for. The 10-foot posts support a run of string lights on an open lawn, a patio or a field, and they can be arranged in straight lines, a crisscross or a full canopy.
Do we buy or keep the lights?
No. All lighting is rented, and it stays the property of Lights Around. We install it, maintain it through your event and take it down afterward, so there’s nothing to buy, store or return.
How far ahead should we book?
Book as soon as your venue and date are confirmed. Fall wedding dates overlap with our holiday lighting season, so September through November weddings should reach out early to secure a crew.
What happens if it rains on our wedding day?
Our outdoor lights are weather-proof, so a light shower won’t stop them. If weather forces a change of date, tell us at least 24 hours ahead and we’ll reschedule at no extra cost.
