Outdoor Tree Light Installation in Virginia

Wrapping a tree properly is the part of a holiday display most people underestimate. A 20-foot maple takes several hundred feet of light and a lift to reach the upper canopy, and the difference between a tree that reads as professionally lit and one that reads as a weekend project is spacing — consistent wrap intervals from the base of the trunk out along each major limb, with no gaps where the strand ran short. Lights Around handles outdoor tree light installation across Central and Northern Virginia as part of a full display or on its own, on trees from small ornamentals up to 30-foot canopies.

What outdoor tree lighting includes

Every tree is measured before it is quoted, because trunk diameter and branch spread drive the footage more than height does. We supply commercial-grade LED strands in warm white, cool white or color, install them with a lift where the canopy needs one, return during the season if a section fails, remove everything in January and store it. Nothing is left on the tree over the summer, which protects both the bark and the strands. Tree lighting pairs most often with roofline installation, and the two are quoted together.

Trunk wraps, full wraps and canopy lighting

A trunk wrap lights the main stem to the first branch and suits a row of street trees or a driveway approach, where the effect wanted is rhythm rather than mass. A full wrap continues out along the primary limbs and is what most people picture when they imagine a lit tree — it costs more because it takes three to four times the footage. Canopy lighting drapes the outer branches on large specimen trees and is usually reserved for a single feature tree at the front of a property. Columns and porch posts follow the same method and are covered on our pillar light wraps page.

What tree light installation costs

Trees are quoted individually. A small ornamental trunk wrap is the entry point; a full wrap on a mature 30-foot tree is a several-hundred-foot job needing a lift and two installers, and is priced accordingly. The fastest way to get an accurate number is a photo of the tree with something of known height beside it — a door, a car, a person. Roofline packages, which most tree jobs are added to, start at $940 and are listed with footage on the Christmas light installation page.

Where we install tree lighting

Tree lighting runs everywhere our roofline crews go, including Fredericksburg, Richmond, Fairfax and Loudoun County, where mature specimen trees on larger lots make it the centerpiece of the display rather than an addition to it. The service-area map has the full list.

When to book tree lighting

Book earlier than you would for roofline alone. Tree work is lift-dependent and the lift schedule fills before the ladder schedule does, so September and early October inquiries get a choice of install date. Request a quote with photos of the trees you want lit and a rough count.
