What Does It Cost to Have Christmas Lights Installed in 2026?
Most of your price comes from one thing: how many feet of roofline get lights. That is why our four roofline packages are sized by footage. Here is how they compare.
| Package | Roofline coverage | Starting price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elf Package | Up to 75 ft | $940 | Single-story homes and townhomes |
| Rudolph Package | 76 to 175 ft | $1,700 | Mid-size homes |
| Santa Package | 176 to 275 ft | $2,500 | Homes with several peaks or gables |
| North Pole Package | 276 to 400 ft | $3,200 | Large homes and estates |
Not sure which package fits your home? You do not need to measure. Send us your details and we will size it and design it for you.
What Changes the Price of Your Quote?
How Much Roofline You Have
This is the biggest factor. A townhome or small one-story house usually fits the Elf Package at up to 75 feet. A mid-size home usually moves up to Rudolph. If your house has a lot of peaks and gables, the Santa Package is built for that, and large homes and estates usually need North Pole at up to 400 feet.
Your Home’s Shape and Height
Two homes with the same footage can need different amounts of work. More peaks, gables and roof sections mean more to plan and more to install. Taller and steeper roofs usually take more time to work on safely. We look at your home when we design your quote, so the price matches the work.
Trees, Wreaths and Other Add-Ons
Add-ons are priced separately, so you only pay for what you want lit. Trees vary the most, because a small tree and a 30-foot tree are very different jobs. You can see the sizes on our tree light installation page, and our guide on how to choose a tree light installer explains what to look for.
Light Color
Warm white is the classic look. If you want more options, our color-changing C9 roof lights start at $1,750 for up to 100 feet and are available for the Christmas season. That works out higher per foot than a standard roofline package. In return, you can change colors from your phone whenever you like.
| Add-on | Starting price |
|---|---|
| Tree light wraps (trees up to 30 ft) | $150 to $1,475 |
| Christmas wreaths (24 to 60 inches) | $125 to $400 |
| Pillar light wraps | From $90 per pillar |
| Shrub lights | $75 to $150 |
| Ground lights | $180 per 30 ft |
| Garland | From $100 |
What a Quote Can Look Like
Numbers are easier to understand with examples. These three are built from our starting prices.
TOWNHOME
Elf Package $940
1 wreath $125
MID-SIZE HOME
Rudolph Package $1,700
1 tree wrap $150
1 wreath $125
LARGE HOME
North Pole Package $3,200

These totals use starting prices. Tree and wreath sizes change the final number, and your design may add or remove items. For a total built around your own home, ask for your free design and price.
What Is Included in the Price?
A Lights Around quote covers more than hanging lights. Every quote includes:
- Commercial-grade C9 LED lights, supplied by us
- Clips and timers
- Design and installation
- In-season repairs, with any section that stops working fixed within 48 hours (two business days)
- Takedown after the holidays
- Storage until next year, with the lights put back up each season
You do not pay extra for takedown or storage, and you do not need a spot in the garage for boxes of lights. See our Christmas light installation page for how it works from start to finish.
How to Compare Quotes From Different Companies
Two quotes with the same total can cover very different things. Ask each company these questions:
- Are takedown and storage included, or billed later?
- Who fixes a section that stops working, and how fast?
- Are the lights commercial-grade, or the kind sold in stores?
- How is the footage counted, and what happens if your home needs more?
- Are clips and timers included?
- Is a design part of the price?
If you are also thinking about lights that stay up all year, the math is different. Our permanent Christmas lights cost guide compares seasonal and permanent side by side.
Professional Installation vs. Doing It Yourself
Store-bought lights can look cheaper at first. Then the list grows. Working out how much it costs to install Christmas lights yourself means adding clips, extension cords, timers, a tall ladder, a weekend of work and a place to store everything afterward. If a section burns out in December, fixing it is on you. Taking it all down in January is the same job in reverse.
If you are planning a DIY job, it helps to know which parts of a home are worth lighting first. Our zone-by-zone guide to outdoor Christmas lights installation shows each one.
What the Government Says About Safety and Energy Costs
SAFETY (CPSC.GOV)
Safety is part of the cost of doing this yourself. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported about 14,900 emergency room visits for holiday decorating injuries in the 2023 holiday season, roughly 160 injuries a day. Nearly half of the injuries involved falls.
The agency’s holiday decorating safety tips also say to use lights labeled for outdoor use, plug them into a GFCI-protected outlet, and throw away any set with frayed wires or broken sockets.
ENERGY (ENERGY.GOV)
Running costs are small with LEDs. The U.S. Department of Energy says LED light strands use 70 percent less energy than traditional incandescent strands. Its example is a 6-foot tree lit 12 hours a day for 40 days, which costs about $0.27 with LEDs and about $10 with incandescent lights.
You can read the full explanation in the Department of Energy’s article How Do Holiday Lights Work?
